It's the Great Pumpkin!

So our efforts at gardening have been mixed at best. This summer we built four large raised beds, filling them with all kinds of seeds in an effort to fill our table. But the we had one of those schizophrenic summers Washington is known for, and our yield was a bit less than we hoped for.

So imagine our surprise when the pumpkins we threw out last fall after Thanksgiving rotted in the big pile of yard waste we collect on the side our our house until we can get around to hauling it to the dump. Actually, that wasn't the surprising bit, stuff rots over there all the time. But rarely does something GROW!

That's right, the pumpkins we left there seeded, sprouted and produced a sprawling, accidental pumpkin patch. And yesterday, Jimmy and the kids harvested our windfall.

Happy Fall!
