Evie June is 4!

We're awfully late in sharing these pictures from Evie's birthday celebration, but that's typical in our household lately! But we've been having fun, enjoying being a family of four, and really enjoyed all the fun surrounding Evie's birthday week. Aunt Monica made a week-long visit which turned out to be very well-timed as both kids came down with something. Arun's lingered way too long, evolving into an ear infection, but he's much better now. Luckily, both kids were feeling well enough a couple of Saturday's ago to enjoy a neighborhood treasure hunt to celebrate Evie June's birthday. We planted rhyming clues around the neighborhood, spots that have been landmarks for Evie June over the past couple of years of bike rides, walks, and baby carriage strolls. Near each we also wrote a letter on the pavement to help guide her and her birthday guest Joel along.

An early stop on the treasure hunt, searching for the clue near her beloved "squeaky trees," a stand of tall cedars near our house that often creak in the breeze.

Reading a clue near the beams Evie June loves to walk across.

Luckily, Joel was willing to reach into the hole in the rock for this clue.

The support team: Treva and Carolanne, mom and Arun.

Arun high flying while his big sister finished her treasure hunt.

At the end of the treasure hunt: a crazy race car track!

Arun enjoyed the chaos and the chance to play with ANYTHING he wanted when Evie and Joel were distracted.

This was our second time lighting the candles--we only made it through the first line of happy birthday before Evie's enthusiasm got the better of her.

Everybody loves cake!

Evie and Joel share a sugar-high hug.

It was a great day and a great way to cap a wonderful year. Evie June continues to amaze us with her imagination, wit, heart and humor. Every day is an adventure, and she's a treasure we rarely have to search for.
