Itzhak Daniels?
Before you watch the newest video of Evie you've got to reminisce with me for a moment. When I was in college, I found out that my school I.D. could get me into the Charleston Symphony for free. I used to drag friends to free concerts and then get paid to write about them in the newspaper. Sweet deal. ESPECIALLY when Itzhak Perlman (Israeli-American violin virtuoso) came to town. Since his performance was sold out and the symphony HAD to honor my get-in-free pass, they put me on a folding chair directly in front of the conductor. I was so close that, when Perlman performed, I could hear his breaths, see the sweat pouring down his forehead and hear the magnificence of his violin so clearly that the experience hangs with me still.
I also grew up in West Virginia, so I'm a bit of a hick. And we hicks LOVE "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels band. Insanely fast fiddling that would make even the most elite violinist tap their toes.
Now enter Evie. She's been taking violin lessons since September and has been enjoying practicing on her mac-n-cheese-box/paint-stir-stick violin that I made her.........until now!
The box arrived today with her 1/16th size violin and she was so excited to play it that she even asked for extra practice later. My hopes are that she enjoys learning, gains confidence, appreciates music, blah blah blah, and CAN WHOOP THE DEVIL'S BUTT IN A FIDDLE WAR!
Here is her very first song. You don't have to watch the entire video, UNLESS you're a grandparent. Enjoy.

After Evie fiddled and Arun danced, they both took a ride on the soul train.

Where is she taking violin lessons? We've thought about that for Isaac in the next year or so.

Evie with that violin may be the cutest thing I have ever seen.
