She Can See Clearly Now

So we've got a lot to report on--including MeeMee and PopPop's visit and Evie June's 3rd Birthday celebrations--but first, the big news.

Evie June got glasses.

Two years ago, we noticed her eye crossing a bit, and our pediatrician referred Evie June to a pediatric opthamolagist. We learned she had was farsighted, moreso in one eye than the other. Since then, we've been to see the eye doctor every three months to keep track of her development. The doctor was very cautious about putting her in glasses until absolutely necessary, but at our most recent appointment, we learned her farsightedness had grown a bit worse. And lately, she's been shutting her left eye to look at things up close. So, the doctor felt it was time for glasses.

And since Friday, its been amazing to watch her and listen to what she's said.

At the eye doctor after he finished his exam, she asked him, "Please do you have any more games?"

At the opticians when he put her new glasses with the lenses on her eyes for the first time, she gasped a little and got wide eyed.

At home that afternoon, I caught her staring at her hand up close. When she saw me, she said, "Mama, it's clear."

When her father got home and told her how much he liked her new look, she ran into the kitchen where I was cooking and said to me, "Daddy thinks I'm beautiful!"

And that night while brushing her teeth, she leaned into the mirror and whispered, "People likes my glasses."

We do. And we're thrilled she seems to love them, that she can see clearly.

And that she has something new to bond with her PopPop over. Here they are reading our new favorite library book, Baby Duck and the Bad Eyeglasses. In this story, a baby duck is unhappy with her new glasses until her grandfather (who also wears glasses) shows her how wonderful they are.

Not hard to see why she likes it, huh?

Evie June is right -- I likes her glasses! She looks so adorable in them -- but more importantly, I'm happy that she's so happy about being able to see! Jason still talks about the moment in elementary school when he got glasses and realized how CLEAR the world could look. (I doubt that he looked as cute as Evie does, though. Hee hee.)

Tell Evie to LOOK for a package to come in the mail before Friday. The rest of her birthday present is in a box addressed to her.

Uncle Paul sent her something really COOL to take apart & sort.

I too love Evie's new look and am so happy that her world is clearer than ever before!

Love & miss you all three!

She doesn't look like a baby anymore! She looks like such a big girl! I likes her glasses, too. She looks beautiful. Tres chic. I think my own glasses are fogging a bit. *snif*
