So much to say . . .

Maybe its been a little while since we posted last. But we've been busy. Dealing with uncharacteristic cold and snowfall, the holidays, kitchen demolition, not sending Christmas cards, a trip to the Nutcracker, car trouble, Jimmy's work, and my uncooperative attempts at revising the next book, we've let a few things slide.

But through it all, Evie June continues to amaze us. Lately her favorite past times include singing made up songs--all to the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," but with lyrics improvised to suit the occasion. Driving home, she'll sing, "Rainbow, Rainbow, Rainbow Drive" or on the potty she'll belt out "Pee Pee Pee Pee Pee Pee Poop" (I'm not making this up.) She's also deeply into pretend play, occasionally breaking character to whisper to one of us that the plastic ball she's just handed to us in a bowl is not in fact really ice cream. "Its just 'tend ice cream." And the other night at dinner, right after being excused, she announced that she was on her way to work. After we stopped giggling, this is the conversation that followed.

Us: Work? Where are you going?
EJ: (Pointing to the playroom) To work.
Us: What do you do at work?
EJ: (Sighing as if this question bores her) Make things, build things, fix things, help people. You know, work!
Us: How are you going to get there?
EJ: (THinks for a moment) Red lights and green lights. Gotta go!
(After slipping down from the table, she stops and looks up at us)
EJ: I almost forgot my lunch! (At this, she grabs a handful of noodles, shoves them into her napkin and wads the whole thing up in a tidy little ball as she marches away.)

Sadly, I don't have video of this exchange or any of the other great moments she's amazed us with lately. But I hope the pictures will give you a tiny glimpse of the fun we've been having and the girl she's becoming.

I knew it from the first moment I saw her first pic, I love her!
I am so glad to hear that she's growing up so sweetly. And I want to hug her!!
I'll settle for just seeing her mommy in April, but then I'm saving up some do-ra-me, to come to visit you all, too.
Love you!!
