Safety Takes No Holiday . . .

After a stretch of yucky, wet, gray cold weather that was bad by even Western Washington standards, the sun reemerged on Saturday. Every day (even when it was raining), Evie June's first words when I go into get her from her nap are "wake up play outside!" She is most pleased with the weather, and with some of the new fun she's found to enjoy.

Fun like 'washing' daddy's truck.

And playing in the box of the new lawnmower.

And of course good weather means lots of bike rides. Sunday we rode to church and then to the grocery store. The trailer was a little heavy on the way home and Evie had to ride with a gallon of milk ("cold!"), but it was worth it. One surprise is how much Evie likes wearing her helmet, often leaving it on for an extended period after a ride. Here she shows that you can never be too careful, whether testing out the SUPERMAXIMUMBUBBLEMAKER or wrangling a delightful but sometimes difficult summer staple: corn-on-the-cob.

I thought the picture of Evie's hand sticking out of the lawnmower box was hilarious, but that wasn't anything compared to the image of Evie sitting at the dinner table, eating corn, and wearing her bike helmet! Priceless!

Also, I am SO jealous of your new lawnmower! We got the cordless electric weedeater this spring, and we're planning to get the mower next year. Let us know how she cuts!

One more thing -- were you trying to trick her into eating baked potato by putting pieces of it onto the corn??

I love your vegetable craftiness...

We do like the new lawnmower. Jimmy's been using one of those old style rotary blade, totally human powered deal (the kind you used to see old men in black socks and sandals manuevering around the flower beds), so this is a big step up.

And regarding the food, I was actually putting corn BACK on the cob. I cut some off because she had so much trouble biting it off, but apparently it didn't taste as good that way, so I was sprinkling it back on to get her to eat it.

She'd already devoured her baked potato and asparagus. The corn was newish for her.
