One big day

March 4, 2006

8 am: After a birthday breakfast of waffles with syrup and butter, Evie donned her birthday dress, hat and party shoes and "opened" her first present a pink and purple baby bike. The dress's matching bloomers saved her any embaressment on the mount/dismount.


12 pm: Spent the morning at church, dancing to the music and then sleeping through the service on MeeMee's lap with a bottle. Afterward, we had a little backyard portrait session courtesy of friends Mike and Heidi visiting from Spokane.


3:15 pm: Evie awoke from her afternoon nap to a dream, and entire room carpeted with her favorite thing: "ball!" To be precise, they were balloons. Good for dashing through . . .

. . . and a daddy physics lesson on static electricity.


4:00 pm: Evie took a few breaks from balloon surfing to show off her new walking skills.


4:07 pm: But she was easily (and often) distracted by her new squeaking dancing shoes.


4:29 pm: Evie June did fine with her first present unwrapping, thanks to lots of eager young pros.

5:01 pm: But no amount of coaching could could convince her that cake and ice cream are better than cheerios or cheddar bunnies.


6:00 pm: As we cleaned up and prepared dinner, Evie June used her new magnet letters to express her thoughts on the day.


7:36 pm: One tired one-year-old at the end of one busy day.
